Quilted G-1 Jacket [L]
Quilted G-1 Jacket [L]
Handmade, one of a kind jacket made out of a vintage handmade quilt. This is based off of a 1950s US Air Force G-1 Linecrewman jacket. These were worn by USAF ground crew members when they were working on the landing fields since they were highly visible.
I didn't have enough of the quilt to make the entire thing on the diagonal like the original version, but the front is. It has a shorter, bomber jacket style with a soft elastic at the waistband hem and at the sleeve cuffs. Has a vintage brass Conmatic (Conmar) zipper closure.
The quilt is light/midweight. The orange squares are a woven cotton. The black squares are a jersey knit, each of these vary slightly in color. The inside lining is a soft, off white cotton. There is light quilt batting in between. You can still see the hand-stitched details throughout, done with an off white cotton thread. Overall, the quilt is in great condition for it's age. I have darned and mended all areas that needed it. Has some irregularities, but that is normal with hand stitched quilts!
All of the seams have been finished with bias tape, so there are no raw edges.
