Wool Flag Jacket [L]
Wool Flag Jacket [L]
Handmade, one of a kind jacket made from US wool army blankets dating from the 1930s-1970s. Adorned with tobacco felt flag souvenirs from the early 1900s. I had to use the leftover pieces from many different army blankets to salvage what I could from them. As a result, there are many different shades of OD and OG green wool throughout the piece. Please note some areas may be darned (mended) or lightly stained.
Finished with antique brass snaps. Two front cargo pockets.
Tobacco felt was used to wrap tobacco leaves during curing. Around 1905, tobacco companies began to include these textile souvenirs in packages of cigarettes and small cigars as promotional collectibles. In the Appalachian region of the United States, these quilts were often made by the wives of tobacco farmers.
